Longer. J. Grant Knocks available Gray Maynard, Earns Next Shot at Benson Henderson's Distinction.

For the UFC on Fox 7 post-fight touch conference, UFC president Dana White announced that the winner of the UFC 160 lightweight showdown between T. J. Grant and Gray Maynard would grab the next shot at your belt held by champion Benson Henderson.

"Gray Maynard's ranked No. 3, T. M. Grant is ranked Zero. 7, these guys could very well fight at UFC one hundred sixty, May 25, " Whitened said in April. "The winner of the particular fight will fight Tom Henderson next. "

Concerning Saturday night, Grant don't just earned that shot, but he sent a voice message to the entire department that he's for real and is the true No. 1 challenger.

Facing Maynard at UFC 160, Grant knew that some sort of title shot was at risk and leaving a lasting impression would be the easiest way to go about earning one. He certainly did that will after clipping and catching Maynard early in the first round, hurting this former title contender.

The Canadian unloaded a good barrage of heavy punches, and Maynard couldn't recover long enough to complete anything except absorb a lot more punishment. The referee finally stepped into stop the carnage, with Grant standing tall as the victor.

Now with five wins in a very row since joining the lightweight division, Grant has solidified his spot as being the No. 1 contender. He now awaits some showdown with Henderson later this current year.

"I know what Dana claimed, I want to fight Benson Henderson for ones title. Nothing but value, but hey I prefer to fight the champ. I want to be the champ, " Grant shouted following your knockout. "Let's do the idea. "

It was an emphatic statement by Grant to not only beat Maynard, who has been near the the surface of the lightweight division for the past few years, but to become only cost-free fighter to finish him inside the UFC. The other fighter was Frankie Edgar for their rematch in 2011.

Grant is now in a prime status to challenge Henderson with the belt in a bout which can take place sometime come july 1st, given his quick enlighten Maynard on Saturday day. With several cards inside August still awaiting main event assignments, a championship bout involving Henderson and Grant would suit your purposes.
