Perhaps not everybody was a bigger surprise for any Nittany Lions last year than Zach Zwinak. Buried in the depth chart to start the summer season, injuries forced Zwinak towards action.
After receiving just three carries over the first three games, that hard-nosed runner broke out there in Week 4 vs Temple. In the gameplay with the Owls, he received just about the most carries of any Penn Declare back, rushing 18 moments for 94 yards.
Zwinak continued to receive at least 12 carries in each and every remaining game, breaking the century mark in rushing yards in six out of the final eight games.
Zwinak will be the clear starter in 2013, as long as he returns to form after a wrist injury, and will have an opportunity to rack up even a lot more yards. He's a big, strong back who can not only run over defenses, but also outrun them.
With a new quarterback according to center, having a strong running game shall be important to take pressure from the passing game. Zwinack is one of the best options the Nittany Elephants have on offense.
