Champions League: Arsenal's Jack Wilshere Set to Miss Bayern Munich Battle

First there is Franck. Now it's Jack. Jack Wilshere could be the latest major name put into the list of people who will take no part in the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 2nd leg between Bayern Munich and Arsenal on Wednesday night. The match is scheduled for 3:45 p.m. ET at Allianz Arena, with Bayern holding a 3-1 benefit following the first leg three months ago in London. Wilshere, a 21-year-old England global midfielder, will miss out the match with an inflamed leg, manager Arsene Wenger has confirmed. He'll miss about three months, meaning he will also be inaccessible for England's FIFA World Cup qualifiers against San Marino and Montenegro. Wenger said (per The Guardian ): I really could see in the last number of games he'd started to dig deep. He has played 30 games. For us it's not welcome but probably for him it is not bad that he includes a little break. It is more about prevention. The expert decided he needed it. He's some bone bruising. The past time it deteriorated into a stress fracture. That's what we do not want to happen. Wilshere's injury isn't only bad news for Arsenal on Wednesday. It could also serve as a long-term fear. Wilshere came ultimately back to the very first group in October after missing greater than a year with an problems for his other leg. Abou Diaby is back in Arsenal's group for the Bayern Munich match on Wednesday.Jan Kruger/Getty Images Wenger added: "We trust folks who are specialists in this area. He was out for 17 months and we had to deal with it; we should be able to deal with it for 2 or 3 games." Defense Bacary Sagna is also unavailable for Arsenal against Bayern. The German leaders may perform without influential midfielders Bastian Schweinsteiger (suspension) and Franck Ribery (damage). Kieran Gibbs and Abou Diaby are in Arsenal's squad. Without Wilshere, Arsenal's already difficult task will be much more difficult. The English midfielder has played an important position with the staff since his return from injury. Bayern, meanwhile, have allowed only seven goals at home in the Bundesliga this season. "We have now been great defensively," said Bayern opponent Philipp Lahm (via @henrywinter). "We have dynamic participants upfront. It'll be very difficult for Arsenal."
