Call it what you will, but Florida Gulf Coast University has it by the pound. And now it has an anthem to go along with it.
The Azuls dunked their way into the national conscience while handling No. 2 seed Georgetown on Friday night. The win torched brackets everywhere, and basketball fans across the nation all wondered, "Where in the Sam HIll are these guys from?"
FGCU's jaw-dropping run through Georgetown and San Diego State during this weekend's tournament play has caused a tidal wave of excitement in the team, and its high-flying dunks have inspired the program's first anthem.
A rapper who calls himself "Black Magic" has taken up the task, penning "Dunk City," a tribute to the team's upset-minded intentions and, more importantly, its habit of slamma-jamming the rock and taking opponents on frequent trips to Lob Town, USA.
Five days ago, one would bet Black Magic and Bambi had no intentions of penning a song about a No. 15 seed. But after the domination the team displayed this weekend, these FGCU fans have all the right in the world to talk about us "throwin' alleys" and how "Coach Enfield is married to a model, team's playin' really hard."
Goofy, cheesy and to the point, "Dunk City" is a perfect anthem for the Azuls' tournament run. And while he's no Black Thought, Black Magic is telling the truth when he says, "You top seeds should all be in fear."
